The future of classrooms has arrived right here in New Town.
According to a recent Times of India report, city schools are handing over answer scripts to AI tools, and our very own The New Town School is leading the charge.
Leading the tech curve
In June, The New Town School introduced AI-assisted checking for classes 9 and 11.
Principal Satabdi Bhattacharjee explained that this isn’t just about handing out marks but catching deep patterns in how kids learn to give them personalized feedback.
How the digital red pen works
Answer scripts are scanned and uploaded to a platform where the AI does the initial heavy lifting.
Don’t worry about rogue bots though—every single paper is sent back to human teachers for final verification.

The neighborhood ripple effect
Just down the road, DPS New Town is leveraging similar tech to handle massive data tabulation and streamline report cards, giving teachers more time back for actual face-to-face teaching.
Other institutions across Kolkata like Ruby Park Public School, Sri Sri Academy, and St. Augustine’s Day School are also jumping on the bandwagon to map student attendance and performance trends.
Navigating the trust factor
While AI promises incredible speed and consistency, it hasn’t been a totally smooth ride across the board.
The tech’s use in this year’s CBSE class 12 evaluations actually sparked a bit of controversy due to scoring discrepancies, making our local schools’ “teacher-supervised” approach a smart, necessary safety net.
