The state government has announced the e-auction of 10 residential plots in New Town, aimed at boosting housing development in the fast-growing township.
The plots will be auctioned by West Bengal Housing Infrastructure Development Corporation (WBHIDCO) on a freehold basis for residential use.
Growing Housing Demand in New Town
The township has a planned population of 10 lakh and an estimated floating population of 5 lakh, based on officials who emphasized New Town‘s long-term urban planning framework, reported by the Times of India.
At present:
- Around 12,000 dwelling units have already been constructed
- Nearly 16,000 dwelling units are under construction
Who Can Participate?
HIDCO has invited bids from:
- Eligible corporate bodies registered under the Companies Act
- Registered trusts
- Registered societies
The move is expected to attract major real estate developers and institutional housing players.

Location & Plot Details
According to authorities, New Town Action Area II contains all ten of the residential plots designated for an online auction.
Key details at a glance:
- Location: Action Area II, New Town
- Plot size: 1,500 sq m to 2,000 sq m each
- Total land area: Approximately 4.7 acres
- Auction schedule: Expected to happen on 12th and 13th February, 2026, 12 pm onwards.
The plots have been set aside solely for residential development, according to officials.
