New Town is about to host the biggest energy gathering in the country.
India Energy Week (IEW) 2027 — the world’s largest energy conference — is moving to our neighbourhood, and it’s landing right across our own convention spaces from January 28 to 31 next year.

India Energy Week isn’t a Small Trade Fair
IEW has grown into the world’s one of the largest energy gathering, and Oil Minister Hardeep Singh Puri has already said the 2027 edition — the fifth — will bring global CEOs, policymakers, investors and innovators to the table.
For context on scale, the previous edition IEW 2026 in Goa alone drew over 700 exhibitors, 75,000-plus attendees, and more than 550 speakers across 120-plus sessions — so expect New Town’s roads, hotels and eateries to feel the footfall too.
The Bigger Picture Across West Bengal.
This will be the first time IEW is held outside Goa or Delhi since it moved away from Bengaluru, and its arrival follows a change of government in the state.
The Centre’s choice underscores Bengal’s role as India’s eastern energy gateway — anchored by the Haldia Refinery and Petrochemical Complex, major ports, and connectivity to the Northeast, Bangladesh, Nepal and Bhutan.
The state is also pushing offshore wind research in the Bay of Bengal, green hydrogen near Haldia, and clean industrial energy — all things this summit is expected to put in front of global investors.
Why Goa’s loss is New Town’s gain.
A Rs 1,000-crore convention centre was built at breakneck speed at ONGC’s training institute in Goa and was positioned as IEW’s permanent home, hosting the 2026 edition.
But no major event has used that Goa facility since — and now the flagship summit has jumped straight to New Town instead.
ONGC summed up the mood best.
“Kolkata, the energy is coming. India’s biggest energy conversations are heading east as #IndiaEnergyWeek 2027 arrives in the City of Joy,” the company posted.
For a locality that’s already home to IT parks, Eco Park and the Bengal Silicon Valley Hub, adding “national energy capital for a week” to the resume feels like a fitting next chapter.
