New Town | February 19, 2026

A 35-year-old resident of DC Block in New Town has allegedly lost ₹3.9 lakh in a suspected credit card fraud, after being duped by a caller posing as a bank executive.

According to the complaint, the incident dates back to September 8, 2025, when the woman received a phone call from a man who identified himself as a bank employee.

The caller informed her that she had accumulated credit card reward points and offered to help her redeem them.

How the Fraud Unfolded

To use the points, the caller directed her to a website. Two transactions totaling ₹3,87,834 were taken out of her card while she was being guided.

He promised to reimburse the money shortly. Rather, the following day it was charged to her account.

She blocked her card and called the bank right away. The charge was temporarily reversed by the bank, but it resurfaced in January with the label “fraud with your liability,” assigning her responsibility.

Complaint Filed, Probe On

The victim filed a complaint on the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal after obtaining the transaction IDs from the bank, and the complaint was then sent to the New Town Police Station.

The call logs, the fraudulent website link, and the transaction trail connected to the beneficiary account are now being examined, police officials confirmed.

Additional investigation is being conducted to track down the accused and retrieve the money that was embezzled, according to an officer.

Rising Cyber Fraud Concerns

This incident adds to the growing number of cyber fraud New Town cases involving fake bank calls and reward points scams.

Authorities have repeatedly urged residents not to share card details, OTPs, or click on suspicious links sent by unknown callers.

Residents are advised to verify any such claims directly with their bank’s official helpline and report suspicious activity immediately.
