Accenture New Town Kolkata Development Authority (NKDA) has issued legal notices to 13 homeowners for allegedly running commercial establishments inside residential properties without the required permissions.
Guest Houses, Offices Found Running Illegally
Officials claim that without NKDA approval or change-of-use approval, a number of properties had been transformed into guest houses, restaurants, private offices, kitchens, and preschools.
While some properties had unsafe internal modifications that made them serious fire hazards, others had changed their approved building plans.
Violations Impact Safety and Zoning Rules
In addition to violating zoning laws, these conversions compromise resident safety and alter New Town’s residential character.
The notices come after previous actions taken against other homeowners who engaged in comparable illegal business activities.
Further Action Possible
Accenture NKDA has issued a warning that noncompliance could result in financial penalties, business closures, or even the cancellation of occupancy permits.
According to the authority, the goal of the drive is to maintain residential zones’ adherence to approved plans, fire regulations, and land-use guidelines.
